March 4, 2019 USTA Tournament

Congrats again to the success of our weekend tournament participants: Kenny Church was semifinalist in back draw of boys 12s and Carmen Wallace reached the finals of girls 14s! Great job by you both. No doubt both performances will earn significant USTA points toward seeding in the next tournament. Next tournament is in two weeks; link below. Please let me know if you want in on the action.–Brian

Final 2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

Congratulations to all our juniors for making our summer tennis training a success!

We learned not only the fundamentals of how to hit but also the rules/etiquette of scoring and behavior. We developed a dynamic challenge ladder and positions were highly contested. See photo below.

Special shout out to David, Isabel, Kenny & Pablo who joined the USTA and represented our group in the August tournament at Spencer Love! There are a couple more entry level USTA tourneys in town during September. Please let me know if your child would like to participate.

In the immediate future we have competitive opportunities for Junior Team Tennis. For this league, matches are Sundays at 1pm or 2:30 and will be both singles and doubles play. The season starts September 16th and runs 6-8 weeks.

So many of our players made great strides this summer. I’m eager to continue the momentum. Thank you for your support of junior tennis at Lawndale!

Final 2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

I’m pleased to share a progress report for Lawndale junior tennis.
We now have more than 15 players competing for position on the Challenge Ladder (see photo below).
Ladder players now have the ability to produce strokes & serves with reasonable consistency, understand/apply rules and keep score. We’ve had more than 30 matches played!
I‘ve found in my experience no better tool than an active challenge ladder to cultivate healthy competitiveness and get the most out of a junior’s game.
Thank you for your support of this program!

2018 Breakfast at Wimbledon

It has become the tradition at Lawndale to gather, play, and socialize in a manner that celebrates and pays homage to the championships at Wimbledon. We have fun and carry on as they do across the pond, competing for a championship on green courts dressed in traditional whites, consuming typical British fare. This year’s event took place on the morning of July 15th.

The 2018 finalists were Phil and Mary Mac Moore, and the champions were Andrea Pollina and Jim Cole.
