Final 2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

Congratulations to all our juniors for making our summer tennis training a success!

We learned not only the fundamentals of how to hit but also the rules/etiquette of scoring and behavior. We developed a dynamic challenge ladder and positions were highly contested. See photo below.

Special shout out to David, Isabel, Kenny & Pablo who joined the USTA and represented our group in the August tournament at Spencer Love! There are a couple more entry level USTA tourneys in town during September. Please let me know if your child would like to participate.

In the immediate future we have competitive opportunities for Junior Team Tennis. For this league, matches are Sundays at 1pm or 2:30 and will be both singles and doubles play. The season starts September 16th and runs 6-8 weeks.

So many of our players made great strides this summer. I’m eager to continue the momentum. Thank you for your support of junior tennis at Lawndale!

Final 2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

2018 Juniors Challenge Ladder

I’m pleased to share a progress report for Lawndale junior tennis.
We now have more than 15 players competing for position on the Challenge Ladder (see photo below).
Ladder players now have the ability to produce strokes & serves with reasonable consistency, understand/apply rules and keep score. We’ve had more than 30 matches played!
I‘ve found in my experience no better tool than an active challenge ladder to cultivate healthy competitiveness and get the most out of a junior’s game.
Thank you for your support of this program!

2018 Breakfast at Wimbledon

It has become the tradition at Lawndale to gather, play, and socialize in a manner that celebrates and pays homage to the championships at Wimbledon. We have fun and carry on as they do across the pond, competing for a championship on green courts dressed in traditional whites, consuming typical British fare. This year’s event took place on the morning of July 15th.

The 2018 finalists were Phil and Mary Mac Moore, and the champions were Andrea Pollina and Jim Cole.

Calling all Tennis Wannabes!

Have you ever wanted to try tennis but didn’t know how to get started?

Our pro, Brian Hattaway, is offering a series of four 1-hour sessions just for Lawndale beginners! Bring a racket if you have one, or borrow one from us. These lessons are free so there’s no excuse not to try.

No registration required; just show up at the clay courts. Saturdays May 26th, June 2nd, June 16th, and June 23rd at 11:30 am. Questions? E-mail Brian at [email protected]

2018 Lawndale Battle de Terre Battue

Come join us on June 9th at 9 am for a French-inspired tennis social, the inaugural Lawndale Battle de Terre Battue! The format will be a mixed doubles “Pro Set” with the first team to 8 games by a margin of 2 to win. The draw will be quarters, semis and finals. A total of 14 players can join in the fun with one team receiving a first round bye. We will play tennis while feasting on a French picnic and champagne. Please RSVP to Brian if you would like to play. No partner needed (Brian will pair you up with one!) but if you have a partner, please include that in your RSVP (no team to exceed a combined 7.5 rating).

We will limit this to Lawndale members until June 5th – after that date if we are short players we will open it up to non-Lawndale players.

When: June 9th at 9 am

Where: Lawndale Swim and Tennis

Format: Mixed Doubles

RSVP: Brian at [email protected] by June 5th (*limited to 14 players so sign up soon!)

Cost: $10 (includes food and drink)

*If this event fills up, we will ask for alternate players to come and participate if needed but otherwise cheer and dine if not. A free stringing will be given to the alternates if they attend but do not get to play!
